Afzalur Rahman
Talent in the face of visual impairment

Afzalur Rahman is one of the few sarod-players in Bangladesh. He is a direct student of the renowned musician Ustad Ayet Ali Khan, younger brother of Ustad Alauddin Khan. His family members--his wife and two daughters--have also taken lessons on sarod from him. He is visually impaired from his childhood. But his love and passion for music is so pure that he names his younger daughter Tungtang, the Bangla onomatopoeic representation of the sound of the piano.

Music Vision, a group of young enthusiasts, plan to honour Ustad Afzalur Rahman on April 28 at the National Museum auditorium. The group will confer its Ustad Barin Majumdar Honour on the sarod-artiste at a programme titled Gaaner Shangshar.

Music Vision wishes to raise some funds for the financially strained family on the occasion.
