Star National Desk
It is a quite different scene at Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examination centres in Nilphamari and Gaibandha. Centres earlier known for rampant cheating is virtually free from the evil practice this year. Our Nilphamari Correspondent reported that vulnerable centres have turned cheating-free due to joint efforts by teachers and law enforcers. Nilphamari Alia Madrassah is one such centre. Teachers with the help of law enforcers thoroughly check examinees before they enter the centre. Vigilance is also very strict at halls and around the campus. So far this year, only two examinees were caught with copies during Dakhil examination at the centre and they were expelled. Eighty-four examinees were expelled last year. A total of 650 examinees are appearing at Dakhil examination at the centre. State Minister for Education ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon during a surprise visit to the centre on Saturday also appreciated the efforts by teachers and others in holding cheating-free Dakhil examination. Talking to newsmen later, he said he was very happy to see the atmosphere and steps taken for holding the examination. Milan's visit took all by surprise. A red flag was flattering atop a tree at Nilphamari High School ground as the state minister was supposed to fly there any day. But his chartered helicopter landed at Nilphamari stadium. He then rushed to the Alia Madrassah without giving any intimation and scope for preparedness. To the surprise of and nervousness of examinees and invigilators, he moved from one room to another and searched many examinees but found no copy. Through a window, he saw copies strewn on the floor of a nearby house. He asked police to collect those. Sources there said the copies left there were found during search of the examinees. Milon paid surprise visits to 10 SSC and Dakhil examination centres in Nilphamari, Panchagarh, Dinajpur and Gaibandha districts on the day. He told The Daily Star's Nilphamari correspondent that he expelled one examinee from a centre at Birampur in Dinajpur and handed him over him to police.
