Road mishaps kill five in Barisal, Cox's Bazar

At least five people were killed and 35 injured in road accidents in Barisal and Cox's Bazar on Tuesday.Our Barisal Correspondent reported that three people were killed and at least 30 injured when a bus fell into a ditch after crushing a motorcycle at Doarika Natun Hat on the Barisal-Dhaka highway in Babuganj on Tuesday. Two of the dead are motorcycle riders Miss Sifunnessa Nice 22, a student of Barisal B M College and her nephew Waliul Islam Tapu, 18, a second year student of Notre Dame College in Dhaka. They were going to Uzirpur from Dehergati. The other dead person is bus passenger Abdus Saber Sabuj, 45, deputy director of Red Crescent, Dhaka. Police and witnesses said the Dhaka-bound bus (no. 03,Dhaka metro-baa-11-1683) of Sakura Paribahon left Barisal Nathullabad Bus terminal at 11 AM Tuesday. It hit the motorcycle coming from the opposite direction. Of the 30 injured, Haven Bina, 30, staff nurse of Barisal SBMCH; Rebecca, 30; Mamun, 35; Lokman, 35 and two year-old Ibrahim are in critical condition at Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital (BSMCH). Others were treated at BSMCH and at Uzirpur hospital, police and hospital sources said. The bodies were handed over to their relatives without postmortem following appeal from their guardians, police said. The coach driver and staff escaped. Our Cox's Bazar Correspondent reported that two persons were killed and five injured seriously when an autorickshaw collided with a microbus at Edgon on the Chittagong-Cox's Bazar highway Tuesday afternoon. One Helal Uddin, 30, died on the spot. Another unidentified person died while being taken to hospital. None of the five injured could be identified, police said.
