DUTA polls Dec 31


Election to the 15-member executive committee of Dhaka University Teachers' Association (DUTA) will be held on December 31.

Earlier the election was scheduled for December 29, but the DU authorities changed the date in view of the Akheri munajat of Bishwa Ejtema.

The polling will be held at the DUTA Club from 10:00am to 2:00pm without any break, with Prof. Syed Fazley Elahi as election commissioner.

Candidates of the BNP-Jamaat-backed 'White panel' and pro-Awami League 'Blue panel' have submitted their nominations.

The left-leaning 'Pink panel' is supporting the 'Blue panel' and two of its candidates are contesting the polls from this panel.

Former DUTA general secretary Prof. AAMS Arefin Siddique of Blue panel and Prof. Sirajul Islam Khan of White panel are running for the president.

The candidates for the post of general secretary are Prof. Mohammad Aktheruzzaman, joint secretary of DUTA, of Blue panel and Tahmina Akther Tofi, provost of Bangladesh Kuwait Moitry Hall, of white panel.

From the Blue panel, Prof. SM Mahfuzur Rahman, Prof. Harun-or-Rashid and Prof. Shafique Uz-Jaman are vying for the posts of vice-president, joint secretary and treasurer while the White panel candidates for these posts are Prof. Nurul Amin Bepari, Dr. ABM Obaidul Islam, Dr. M Farid Ahmed.

The Blue panel candidates running for members are Prof. RIM Aminur Rashid, Prof. Kazi Shahidullah, Prof. Sharifullah Bhuiyan, Prof. AZM Nowsher Ali Khan, Prof. Mezba Uddin Ahmed, Prof. Ashraf Uddin Chowdhury, Prof. Nilufunnahar, Prof. Fakhrul Alam, Prof.

Aminul Haque Bhuiyan and Prof. Hussain Mansur.

And the White panel candidates are Prof. Saiyad Shalehin Qadri, Prof. Sadrul Amin, Prof. Sirajul Islam, Dr. Taslima Mansur, Abu Ahmed, Mahmud Hasan, Prof. Abdul Aziz, Dr. Afsar Uddin, Prof. Nurul Islam and Prof. Habiba Khatun.
