Army, BJMC champs


Bangladesh Army clinched the men's title while BJMC won the women's crown in the Pepsi National Volleyball Championship eliminating their respective rivals at the court near National Hockey Stadium yesterday.

It was Army's tenth triumph in 21 meets as they dethroned Bangladesh Rifles by straight 25-20, 25-16, 25-22 points.

For BJMC, it was the 6th, three times in a row in 13 as they defeated Bangladesh Ansars & VDP by 25-13, 25-23, 25-20 points.

Farhad of Bangladesh Army was adjudged the best player in the men's group while Lubu Akhter of Bangladesh Ansars & VDP named as the best player in the women's group.

Khulna and Pabna DSAs got the "fair play" trophies in the men's and women's competitions respectively.

Bangladesh Police finished third in the men's section beating Titas Club by 24-26, 25-16, 25-23, 25-17 points while Rajshahi DSA placed third in the women's section defeating Rangpur DSA by 25-22, 25-14, 18-25, 25-19 points.

State Minister for Youth and Sports Fazlur Rahman was the chief guest in the final and distributed prizes. Executive Director of the meet sponsor Transcom Beverage Limited Golam Quddus Chowdhury was also present.
