SL navy rescues 13 Bangladeshi fishermen adrift for a month

Sri Lanka's navy yesterday rescued 13 Bangladeshi fishermen who had been adrift at sea for nearly a month after their boats ran into difficulty, officials here said.

The fishermen, in two boats, had set out from Bangladesh on November 27. They were rescued some 200 kilometres (125 miles) off the coast of Trincomalee in the island's north-east, navy officials said.

The officials said the victims identified themselves as Bangladeshi nationals and the navy is seeking the help of the Bangladesh High Commission here to help send them back home.

No further details were immediately available.
