Consultation on child rights at UN tomorrow

A consultation on the Bangladesh Second Periodic Report regarding implementation of the convention of the Rights of the Child (CRC) will be held at the UN Headquarters in Geneva tomorrow.A five-member Bangladesh delegation was due to leave for Geneva last night to discuss the report with the Committee on Rights of the Child. Dr Kamal Uddin Siddiqui, principal secretary to the prime minister, will lead the delegation. The other members are Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Secretary M Asaduzzaman, joint secretary of the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs Ferdous Ara Begum, Deputy Chief (Planning) of the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education Altaf Hossain, and chairperson of Bangladesh Shishu Adhikar Forum Dr Hamidul Haque. The Ministry of Women and Children Affairs prepared the report, said a press release. The delegation will discuss the progress regarding the rights of children in Bangladesh. It will also seek support and suggestions from the committee in identifying priorities.
